Main Venue : Luzhniki Stadium
When the seeking deadline passed on 1st December 2006. four candidate cities (Barcelona, Brisbace, Moscow & Gothenburg) had confirmed theircandidatures. Gothenburg backed out later that month, citing lack of financial support from the Swedish government. The IAAF annonced Moscow the winning candidate at the IAAF Council Meeting in Mombasa on 27th March 2007.
Deputy Mayor of Moscow Valery Vinoogradov announced on 13th March 2006 that Moscow would bid for the Championships & suggest that they would use Luzuhniki Stadium for the event. The city hosted the 1980 Summer Olympics & tthe 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
